Virtual Trauma Therapy

I offer virtual trauma therapy to children and teen of most ages as well as their families. I also specialize in treating child victims and survivors of sexual abuse. I work with my clients individually and can also offer family sessions when appropriate. I can address trauma symptoms, parent-child relationships, parent-child conflict, communication, and attachment injuries.

Trauma symptoms and attachment injuries go hand in hand with depression, anxiety, opposition, defiance, PTSD, etc. If you are concerned about your child's symptoms, reach out to me and we can discuss if this is a good fit for your child and your family.

I work from a trauma-focused and attachment-focused perspective. Below is some information about the types of therapies I offer.

Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention (CFTSI)

CFTSI is a short-term, 5-8 session, treatment. CFTSI is an intervention for children 7-18 years old. Some of the goals for CFTSI are to reduce traumatic stress reaction and the onset of PTSD (posttraumatic stress disorder), improve awareness around trauma symptoms, and improve parent-child communication around trauma symptoms. CFTSI is provided within 30-45 of a traumatic event occurring or the disclosure of the traumatic event, such as sexual abuse. Many children are referred to a CFTSI certified clinician by law enforcement, forensic settings, child protective services, and other mental health providers. Parent/caregiver involvement is required.

Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

TF-CBT is a type of therapy for children and adolescents that have been impacted by traumatic event(s). TF-CBT can help reduce a variety of emotional and behavioral challenges associated with their traumatic experience(s).  This is a structured modality (type of therapy) that can be short-term or long-term ranging between 8-25 sessions, but this will vary case by case. TF-CBT can improve trauma symptoms and responses as well as other areas associated with the traumatic event such as low mood and anxiety. Parent/caregiver participation is highly encouraged as TF-CBT can also address caregiver’s distress around their child’s traumatic experience, improve parent-child relationship as it relates to the trauma, and improve parenting skills.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a type of therapy designed to reduce the distress associated with traumatic memories. It is extensively researched and has shown to be effective in helping people recover from trauma and posttraumatic stress symptoms. EMDR is structured and briefly focuses on the trauma memory while simultaneously engaging in bilateral stimulation, this is typically eye movements or tapping. The brain’s natural information processing system can be impacted or blocked by traumatic experiences. EMDR helps activate the natural healing process by removing those blocks.

Multi-Modal Attachment Therapy (M-MAT)

M-MAT was created for children and families struggling with attachment injuries. M-MAT incorporates a number of modalities (therapy types) to target and address attachment and connection. This is done through structured, attachment-based interventions such as play, parent-child interaction, and talk therapy. It also facilitates secure attachment between caregiver and child to promote healing. This increases emotional regulation and allows your child to make new meaning of their experiences and reduce shame. Parent/caregiver participation is required.
